The Eketorps trail - "Eketorpsleden"
The Eketorp trail is a 1.6 km trail on the limestone plain west of fort Eketorp, the southern most of Öland’s ancient forts.
The fort, which has been rebuilt, is strategically located in the middle of the limestone plateau known as Stora Alvaret. The easily accessable trail runs through pastures, west of the ancient castle and the visitor center, follow the signs from the plains at the visitor center to start the walk. The trail is marked with stone mounds or cairns and goes mainly over the flat landscape, and is therefore an easy route to walk.
If you are interested in Geocaching, there are several hiding places in connection with the trail.
In summer, the alvar soil is grazed by stray animals.
There are parking facilities, toilets, a visitors centre (open during the summer) and
information available at fort Eketorp.
Please consider
• The hiking trail pass through grazing fields
• Many of the plants of Öland´s flora are protected species and may
therefore not be picked
• Dogs must be kept on a leash in grazing fields
• Do not disturb an animal´s young or its habitat
• Fossils may not be broken loose
